The dates identified at the end of October and November both coincided with other activities and observances, including Diwali and Eid Mubarak.On Septembers 1st the New Amsterdam Municipality observed its 118th anniversary and back then the Town Clerk (Acting) Angellina Collins had spoken of the need for a better relationship between the municipality and citizens.The next activity for the Town Week would see100 senior citizens from in and around the town being pampered. The females would be treated to manicures and pedicures while their male counterparts would receive haircuts after which the group would be taken on a conducted tour to some sites of interest. Among the places identified is a trip across the Berbice River Bridge but this will depend on sponsorship or whether the Bridge Committee is willing to waive the fare for crossing.Thursday is the Opening Ceremony at the corner of Main Road and New Streets. A parade featuring non-governmental groups,Cheap Stitched Jerseys, youth bodies, military and paramilitary organizations as well as schools and other agencies would take off from Strand and Coburg Street.
