| The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has said that there was no delay in attending to the victim of snakebite. They said that this happened after 23:00 hrs the previous night. In its release, the GPHC stated that it did not have records of when the young lady arrived at the hospital. They added that the child was admitted to the ward at 22:45 hours.Kaieteur News reporters left the GPHC minutes after 23:00 hrs that night, and the child was still crying out in pain in the waiting area of the emergency unit.“While it is uncertain at what time the patient arrived at the hospital, even by the Kaieteur news account of 19:30 hours, it means that this patient received attention within 90 minutes of her arrival,” the hospital reported.Meanwhile, the GPHC press release stated that it “encourage(s) patients and their relatives to use the complaints desk at the institution to first address their concerns.”Kaieteur News had reported that the teen was bitten by a Labaria snake at around 18:30 hours that day (October 13) at Susannah’s Rust some 12 miles up the Demerara River.She was then transported to the GPHC by relatives, who had given her ‘espesiphico’ for the snake bite. |
