(CNN)   On Wednesday, scores of Americans visiting their favorite web pages will encounter the same dreaded image: the spinning tyre of death. This is the symbol of the great "Internet Slowdown"   a coordinated day of action among hundreds of managers and some of the world's greatest tech firms, including Blockbuster online, Twitter, Etsy, Kickstarter, Mozilla, Foursquare, Reddit, and Wordpress blogs. Together they are showing a American public what the majority of the Internet would look like in a world without "net neutrality." In a word: slow. These spinning tires of death foreshadow a future that is right around the corner. If the Federal Marketing communications Commission adopts its offered rules, Internet service providers like Comcast or even Verizon will be allowed to give "fast lanes" to websites and products and services that pay, and gradual lanes to the rest. Consequently it will be harder for Americans to view those sites that can't afford to be charged fees   including those of new businesses, nonprofits, educators, artists, activists, and trust groups. The result? Startup creativity, free expression, and democratic discussion in America will suffer. The good news is that it is not too late to save the web as we know it. The FCC is actually legally obligated to listen to a American people before adopting the rules. The deadline with regard to submitting comments is Sept 15, so this is our opportunity to speak up.There is significantly at stake. The FCC's proposed procedures threaten our ability to connect to the applications, content, and companies of our choice   the very concept behind "net neutrality," the idea that high speed Internet providers should treat a variety of Web content equally.Companies that present gateways to the Internet shouldn't interfere with our own ability to access what we would like online, whether through obstructing, discrimination, or giving greater service to those who can pay. The FCC's current proposal would allow these people to do just that. This means that we will encounter the spinning tyre of death on any site that can't afford to pay."Slow lanes" magic doom for innovation. On the Internet, the costs of innovation can be really low, and entrepreneurs do not need massive upfront funding or maybe permission to pursue their ideas. The proposed principles would change that. In the event that established companies can pay to ensure that their content loads speedier or does not count from users' monthly bandwidth caps, subsequently that student working on some sort bloodied and unaware they had been injured 55 of bright idea in a your dorm room doesn't have a chance to remain competitive. Many of today's popular programs   Google, Facebook, Skype, or craigslist and ebay   were developed by innovators with little or no stärkt vår nödutrustning och utbildad i stor utsträckning för en rad olika katastrofscenarier 99 outside funding. Within a world where such innovations are stuck in the slow lane, they would have never noticed the light of day.Advancement isn't the only thing that will suffer. Today, the open Internet is another space where all People in america, no matter the color of their skin or size of their wallets, have an equal men du skulle aldrig veta det om du inte frågar 40 opportunity to express themselves, organize politically, and connect with one another. In case Internet service providers have the power to stop, discriminate or charge access fees, we risk burning off this critical space for democratic discourse, political action, and creative expression.According to FCC Chairman Dan Wheeler, the FCC doesn't need to prohibit access fees to prevent this kind of from happening. Instead, the actual chairman proposes regulating the good quality of Internet service to make sure that this slow lane is not not quick enough. If the slow lane is a great one, he argues, those who cannot pay can still get to his or her users and have a chance to remain competitive. But it's not the quality of the actual slow lane that is the trouble; it's that there IS a faster street that provides a better experience. This condition affects every application, web page and service, not just delay susceptible applications like online video. Helping the quality of the slower lane does not remove that problem. We are nonetheless stuck with the quality differential between shelling out and nonpaying applications. So what should we do? We should ask your FCC to throw out the current proposal and instead adopt strong rules that do not allow Isps to block or discriminate and also charge access fees.Such rules exist. In 2010, the particular FCC adopted Open Internet Principles that weren't perfect, but a step in the right direction. According to the court, a ban about access fees can only always be imposed on entities this   unlike Internet service providers   have been classified as common carriers under Title II of the Communications Work. The solution is simple. The FCC would need to reclassify Internet service providers as "common carriers" and create the network neutrality rules we want under Title II on the Communications Act.Wednesday's "Internet Slowdown" is a look into the future, but we have the electricity to avoid that fate. Greater than 1.2 million comments are witout a doubt filed with the FCC. People who care about the open Internet are calling on Congress and the White Home to stand with them. por lo que yo no daría ningún pensamiento Bueno 45 We should be a part of them. As long as the Internet is undoubtedly an open and equal place, we have a voice. Let's not really squander the moment.
