Assistant Superintendent of Police, Trevor Reid, was another witness who testified that he had arrested the mother of Deon Greenidge, with a bag containing a large quantity of money. Deon Greenidge, Sherwin Hart and Devon Gordon are all charged with the 2009 murder of Bartica gold miner Dwieve Kant Ramdass.The matter is currently being heard before Justice Franklyn Holder at the Suddie High Court.The three accused are being represented by attorney at law Latchmie Rahamat. Senior Prosecutor Judith Gildharie- Mursalin is representing the state.Reid in his evidence in chief told the court that he is stationed at the Criminal Investigation Department. According to the witness on August 20, 2009 he had travelled to La Grange Police Station where he interviewed Sherwin Hart’s brother Shawn Ageday, and Leroy Lloyd.According to Reid the two were arrested after the police found large sums of money in their possession. He said that he later went to the Leonora Police Station where he spoke to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Terrace Paul.Reid said that he then went to East La Penitence. The witness further told the court that once he arrived at Lot 166 Middle Road, La Penitence he spoke to one Yvonne Beckles.Reid said that the allegation was put to the woman, who is the mother of Deon Greenidge. The woman, according to the witness, left and went into the home and brought out a bag. He said that at the top of the bag was a jersey covering it.Once it was removed, Reid told the court that bag was filled with money. The woman was later taken to the Criminal Investigation Department,Cheap Jerseys Free, along with Greenidge.He said that the money was marked and he had also caused it to be photographed. A count of the money revealed that it was some $5.5M. The cash was lodged with the police but was later handed over to the owner.Under cross examination by the defence lawyer Reid denied the suggestion that any of the men were beaten in his presence or by him. The lawyer also questioned Reid about whether he had checked the serial number for the money. The witness admitted that he never checked the serial numbers.The two Privates and a Lance Corporal were manning the Coast Guard RC 12 motor boat in the Essequibo River, when they allegedly confronted Ramdass in a boat at the Parika Stelling.The former soldiers took Ramdass allegedly into their boat and transported him to another location in the river where they relieved him of $17M in cash which he was carrying in a box to Bartica for his employer, who operated a gold and diamond business in the city. The trial continues today. |
