| Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), Karan Singh, has said that the rehabilitation of the pipelines at Vlissengen Road has finally been completed, after a one-week delay.The lines underwent pressure testing last Thursday and according to Singh, residents in the surrounding communities such as Meadow Brook, Guyhoc Park, Lodge and La Penitence should be receiving water as usual.“I’m hoping that the residents of Lodge and La Penitence can be happy as they should have their services restored to normalcy. I apologize sincerely to them but this is the reality. I want the public to know that there are pipelines older than you and (me) in Georgetown and they have outlived their youthful lives but they require millions of US dollar resources to have them changed,” Singh said.However, Kaieteur News understands that residents in La Penitence are not receiving full water supply. According to Singh, the situation is currently being monitored by GWI, in order to assess exactly where the problem lies, so that it can be immediately rectified.Phase one of the project, which entailed the changing of lines from Shelter Belt to the entrance of the Botanical Gardens has already been completed.The next phase of the project will commence when the water company receives the necessary funding.The first phase had to be treated as an emergency, since the pipelines were over 100 years old and as a result there were many cracks in the lines,Cheap NFL Jerseys, which created a water leakage.The surrounding communities, therefore, could not have accessed any water from the system.It was explained that when the traffic lights were being installed in the area, the lines were further damaged.
