– calls for assistance in “restoring Guyana”A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Presidential Candidate, Brigadier (ret) David Granger along with Member of Parliament Dr. John Austin, New Amsterdam Mayor Mr. Claude Henry and Ms. Genevieve Allen Regional Councillor for Demerara/Mahaica (Region 4), met with religious leaders of New Amsterdam in East Berbice/Corentyne recently at the New Amsterdam Town Hall. The 50 odd leaders came from various denominations in the region and shared their concerns over the state of the region and communities nationwide. Also on the trip were Colonels (ret) Larry London and George Gomes among others.Mr. Granger told the gathering that all religions have a role to play in restoring values to Guyanese life. He pointed to the hundreds of destitute children, women, drug addicts, school drop outs and thousands of starving people who are “on the edge”.  He also referred to the growing number of unemployed persons, murders, robberies, and countless fatal accidents. He further stated that “Guyana is now in a state that can only be described as a human catastrophe as there are now platoons of street children in all ten regions of our nation”.Seated from left: Mayor Claude Henry, Larry London, APNU Presidential candidate, Mr. David Granger,Wholesale MLB Jerseys, Dr. John Austin and George Gomes.Granger asserted that Guyanese are “Godly people” and called for religious bodies to support restoration of the “Covenant” that was destroyed in the past 19 years by a corrupt administration. He reminded those in attendance that “under the PPP/C regime, farms and schools have collapsed; care about human development has been disregarded. Shaking a foundation that was built 172 years ago that freed Guyanese from poverty and hunger”.He added that a society in which homes are sacred must be built along with a safe and secure nation, one in which all citizens can feel that they have a place.” He called on religious leaders to bring their congregations back into the Churches, Mosques and Temples. These, he said, must take a lead in restoring values as they will stop Guyana’s foundation from shaking and put it back on the four pillars on which it was built that is – homes, schools, jobs and Religion. The Presidential Candidate ended by stating that some of his priorities upon entering Presidential Office will include education restoration, job provision, economic development, a secured nation and unity and equality. At the end of the meeting the religious leaders joined hands and prayed for the Presidential candidate and his team.
