| Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mitchell Caesar, maintained that he is telling the truth regarding the statements made by murder accused Jarvis ‘Barry’ Small, and Bibi Shareema Gopaul, during the preliminary investigations into the death of Neesa Gopaul.Caesar was quizzed by defence counsels, Lyndon Amsterdam and George Thomas, about the accuracy and sequence of his statements after he returned to the stand yesterday. He said that he couldn’t recall. As such, the lawyer requested the records of the Brickdam Police Station diary but these were not available.At this point, Amsterdam asked the witness whether he had told the truth about the sequence of the statements and whether he related to the court the exact words that the accused uttered at the time of the interview with the policemen.The lawyer suggested to the witness that he told the court a different story than that which is written in the station diary and which he relayed in the Magistrates’ Court, but Caesar maintained that his records are accurate in regards to what the number one accused, (Small) told him.Caesar had earlier stated that Small told investigators that he knew who killed Neesa Gopaul and when he was finished saying what he had to say, Bibi Shareema Gopaul would be an accessory to murder.”Amsterdam then suggested to the witness that the word “accessory “ was not contained in his records and his deposition which were tendered in the Magistrates’ Court. Caesar replied that he might have related the exact words or “words to that effect.”Amsterdam then suggested to him that the accused had given the statement about Gopaul being an accessory to murder before he could have administered the caution to him.Based on the suggestion by the lawyer, Caesar said that he would accept that he might have done so if it is recorded in his deposition.The witness then explained that he had taken notes in his personal diary before recording them in the station diary. He said that he might have missed a word while transcribing the notes but his statements are more or less accurate.Further quizzed about what he would not have told the court, Caesar admitted there were details which he did not mention about the interview with Bibi Gopaul. The policeman said that in addition to what he told the court regarding what Gopaul told investigators about her relationship with Small, “she also said that he (Small) was the only man that made her feel like a woman.”The policeman further stated that he might have forgotten to mention it while giving his evidence in chief.
