| A detective constable who reportedly shot one of his colleagues and attempted to remove the spent shellsAccused: Detective Constable, Shawn Robertsfrom the crime scene was released on $240,000 bail when he appeared before city Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday.Twenty nine-year-old Shawn Roberts, a constable attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Brickdam Police Station, was hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to respond to charges of Assault, Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm, Discharging a Loaded Firearm with Intent, Threatening Language and Attempting to Pervert the Course of Justice.The court heard that on September 3,Anas Mahmoud Jersey, last, at Eccles, East Bank Demerara, Roberts unlawfully assaulted Johnlon Knights. The detective constable was accused of discharging a loaded firearm at his colleague, Police Constable,Carlton Fisk Jersey, Leroy English, with intent to maim, harm, disable, disfigure or cause him grievous bodily harm.The lawman was charged, too, for using threatening language to Knights as well as assaulting Constable English with intent to cause him actual bodily harm. The fifth charge slapped against Roberts alleged that he also attempted to pervert the course of justice by removing spent shells from a crime scene at Eccles.During his arraignment, Roberts, a resident of Kuru Kururu on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, denied the allegations and submitted an application for reasonable bail through his attorney, Peter Hugh.In his petition, Hugh told the Court that the Detective Constable has severed the Guyana Police Force (GPF) for the past nine years and has no pending or prior matters. He described his client as a hardworking rank.Prosecutor Sergeant Gordon Mansfield did not oppose bail. He asked,Giovani Lo Celso Jersey, however, that a court bond be granted in a substantial amount along with conditions.Conditional bail was granted and the matter was transferred. Constable Jermaine Charles appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman on Tuesday and was granted $200,000 bail on perverting the course of justice allegation.It is alleged that on September 3, last at Eccles, East Bank Demerara, Charles attempted to pervert the course of justice. He pleaded not guilty.It was previously reported that Constable English was shot following a high-speed chase that started on West Bank Demerara and ended at Peter’s Hall,Authentic Atlanta Falcons Jersey, East Bank Demerara. It was said that the police ranks involved in the shooting were not familiar with each other, as they were both in plainclothes and were chasing a car driven by the son of a popular city businessman.English who had received injuries to his right hand and foot was admitted at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). Police, in a subsequent statement,Boston Celtics Pro Shop, confirmed that English was shot and did not go into the details surrounding the shooting.Both lawmen are set to face Magistrate Leron Daly at the Providence Magistrate’s Court on December 15. |
