In commemoration of the 174th Anniversary of the Arrival of East Indians to Guyana,Sonu Nigamthe Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha is organizing a concert featuring world renowned singer Sonu Nigam and a troupe of 15 other singers and musicians.The Sabha announced yesterday that the concert is billed for the National Stadium, Providence on April 28 and confirmed that it had signed an agreement confirming Sonu and troupe.Sonu Nigam is one of the most popular singers of India. He is a favorite with persons of all ages and has inspired thousands of young singers across the world.Singing since the age of three, Sonu is equally known for his rendition of the popular songs of the legendary Mohammed Rafi, as he is for his own Bollywood Hits, his role as television host for the musical talent show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and his non-filmi albums.He has won numerous awards for his songs including those in popular films Kabhi KhushiKabhiGham, Kal Ho Na Ho, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna,Jerseys Cheap NFL, Om Shanti Om and Main Hoon Na.He has been the voice of many Bollywood stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Amir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan to name a few.Coming with Sonu for the Concert will be his father, Agam Nigam, a recording artist himself, particularly recognized for his rendition of hits from yesteryear. Also singing on the show will be the beautiful Gunjan Singh.Gunjan has won such prestigious awards as the ‘All India (National) Award’ for best Vocalist, which she won for three consecutive years. She has shared the stage with some of the big names in the Indian Music Industry such as Lakshmikant Pyarelal, Ravindra Jain, AnuradhaPaudwal and Shubha Mudgal, and has been part of Sonu’s concerts on many occasions.The Sabha believes that Sonu and troupe would be a wonderful treat for Guyanese families.Patrons will be treated to more than three hours of non-stop entertainment; The Sabha’s own Dharmic NrityaSangh will also perform. As usual, there will be a strict no alcohol policy.Tickets will be sold in the categories of general seating, VIP –reserved seating and ‘All inclusive’ VVIP. Ticket details and locations will be released shortly.All proceeds of this event will be dedicated towards the construction of a Shelter which will house children who are victims of abuse, the Sabha stated.The building will be based in Berbice, where the Sabha has already secured land. In addition to performing at the concert, Sonu will attend a special event, hosted by the Sabha, to launch the building plan for the Shelter.The Sabha has thanked the Government for its support and has also acknowledged its sponsors Digicel, E-Networks, NCN, NTN and Pegasus Hotel Guyana. |
