| The Guyana Police Force has taken umbrage to an article published in this newspaper attributed to columnist Peeping Tom under the caption “in the interest of justice.”The article had stated that during the crime wave, it was evident that some gunmen were receiving support from persons inside and outside of the community and to date, no one has been charged and placed before the courts for aiding and abetting the gunmen.But the Guyana Police Force stated that this statement is far from factual since a number of persons have been charged and placed before the courts for such activities in relation to the ‘Fineman’ gang.The force listed several cases in which persons were charged for aiding and harbouring criminals during the period.1. Sheldon Williams of Cummings Lodge Squatting area has been charged with harbouring a wanted person.2. Omali Rogers of Woodpecker Lane,Air Max Salg Norge, Amelia’s Ward, Linden, has been charged with harbouring a wanted person and accessory after the fact. He was placed on bail and has not been appearing in court consequently a ‘wanted bulletin’ was issued for him on April 22, 2009.3. Shimroy Lyght of Christianburg, Linden, has been charged with harbouring a wanted person and accessory after the fact.4. Loutel Simon of Goedverwagting Squatting Area, ECD, has been charged with harbouring a wanted person and accessory after the fact.5.
