A mechanic also known as “Oney or one-foot” of Lot 1 East Ruimveldt, , was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, when he appeared to face the indictable charge of robbery under arms.The court heard that on September 10 at Charlotte and Wellington Streets, in the company of others, whilst being armed with a gun, 33-year-old Faizal Mohamed robbed Hu Yu Nan of a number of items. These included $71,000USD, $500 SRD, $2,200,000 GYD, $100,000 in Brazilian currency, 61 cell phones, a quantity of gold, silver and diamond jewellery, a quantity of artificial jewellery, a number of bags, six portable DVD players, one 7.65mm Taurus pistol with eight matching rounds , all amounting to $41,236,600.The defendant was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.Representing Mohamed was Attorney at Law, George Thomas, who requested that his client be granted bail in a reasonable sum considering his disability and the fact that he has no pending matters before any other court.Despite the lawyer’s submission, his bail application was denied and the accused is expected to return to court on October 12 for report and fixture.Previously charged for the same matter was a 24-year-old father of four, Kenrick Duncan of Stevedore Housing Scheme,Wholesale Jerseys, North Ruimveldt, who was remanded to prison after appearing before the said Magistrate on September 25. |
