| A businessman and father of five made an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday, charged with the possession of a narcotic.Thirty-six year-old, Lance Walters of 84 Fifth Avenue Subryanville, was charged with having 8 grams of cocaine in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.Police inspector Michael Grant stated that on the day in question at about 20.30hrs,Wholesale NBA Jerseys, the police were conducting several searches, when they received certain information, and the defendant was sought and found. As the police were about to tell the defendant about the information they received, it is alleged that he placed his hand in his right pocket and “threw away something”.Grant said that the police went in search of the item and a white substance was revealed which was suspected to be cocaine. Subsequently, the substance was taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) where it tested positive for cocaine. Walters was told of the offence and later arrested and charged.Walters’ attorney Latchmie Rahamat in her application for bail informed the court that her client has five children. She said that he has no pending matters before the court. And at the time of the police search, counsel said that her client did not have the narcotic in his possession. She also reminded the court that her client was convicted three years ago for a similar offence.However, the prosecutor objected to bail citing that counsel did not provide any special reasons which would allow the man to have his pre-trial liberty. Because Walters was convicted before for a similar offence, the prosecution used this as a weapon to deny the defendant bail.Walters was subsequently remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry. |
