From June 2, 1969 when it was established to today, Woodlands Hospital has been transformed into a modern health institution. This is according to one of the founding members of the hospital and director, Dr. Abraham Fung-A-Fat, who during the hospital’s 40th anniversary yesterday, said that in the 1960s, it was very difficult for anyone to acquire loans for construction. He expressed his appreciation to the Bank of Nova Scotia for granting a loan to the institution.According to Dr. Fung-A-Fat, during its 40 years of existence, the hospital has made a magnificent transformation in improving the quality of service it offers to the people. He added that the institution is now in the process of equipping itself with some of the most modern health equipment, which would eventually advance the level of services to the people. This includes the establishment of an Echo Cardiogram and the digital x-ray which can capture an image and send it anywhere in the world.According to Dr. Fung-A-Fat, the institution is now trying to fund an extension to the recent mammogram that was bought. The expansion would enable specialists to conduct an immediate biopsy if a lump is found in the person. This piece of equipment, Dr Fung-a-Fat said, cost some US$40,000.When the hospital opened, it started with an Out-Patient Department, a six-bed maternity ward, labour room, a nursery, a seven-bed male ward, a 12-bed female ward, four private rooms and an operating theatre.Today the hospital boast a 15-bed female ward, a 13-bed male ward, an expanded nursery,NFL Jerseys China, a five-bed pediatrics ward, a recovery ward, an intensive care unit, two additional private rooms, a state-of-the-art 24-hour Emergency Service department, a modernised operating theatre, a day case ward, a sophisticated Radiology department, a 24-hour national certified laboratory, and 24-hour Pharmacy care. There are other services.“Woodlands have always placed emphasis on doctors and modern equipment, as every year we try to bring in something new to add to the institution.”A week of activities commenced yesterday, the first being the distribution of hampers, which were given to mothers in the maternity ward of the hospital. There would also be a staff appreciation dinner to honour those long serving employees.Forty patients would receive free laboratory tests along with a 10 per cent discount on ultrasound, a five per cent discount on prescription drugs bought at the hospital’s pharmacy and a free glass of local juice at the hospital’s cafeteria.Woodlands Hospital Limited was officially opened on June 2, 1969 at the same site where it stands.
