– urges govt. to spend more on roadsFollowing a number of fatal accidents in the interior, the Guyana Women Miners Organisation (GWMO) has called on Government to invest more on hinterland roads. The association,Deion Sanders Falcons Jersey, in expressing sympathy to the families of the persons killed in the accidents at Big Creek, North West District and at Buck Hall, Region Two, said that the roads that miners are forced to traverse are death traps and “every time a man or woman chooses to use those roadways they are putting their lives and limbs at risk.”An advocacy group for women miners is calling on government to take urgent action to repair roads in the hinterland and also tackle the crime situation. The GWMO described the dramatic experiences associated with using the roads.“As miners, we also use those roads regularly and all our members could tell you of the hair-raising experiences they have had as they travel on the roadways. We are issuing a clarion call to the government to invest in improving the roads in the interior as every man, woman or child forced to use them are at risk.”The accident at Big Creek last Tuesday afternoon saw the life of a female miner being snuffed out. A woman was also among the four persons who were killed at Buck Hall.“These deaths are of serious concern to the organisation. Another woman miner is now hospitalised after a mining pit at Baramita, Region One, caved in on her. Rita Henry is lucky to be alive and we pray for her safe recovery.”According to the association, a number of murder incidents are also of concern.“Two most recent cases of murder are those of miners Robert Hunter, who was killed over the weekend, reportedly during a drunken brawl at Imbaimadai, and Randy Rafael of Kamwatta Village, North West District, whose body was found last Saturday in a hammock at ‘Bruck up’ Landing, North West District,Artemi Panarin Jersey, with a gunshot wound to the head.”The GWMO said that the accidents and murders follow on the heels of several others in various parts of the gold mining area and “we, as an organization,Marlon Humphrey Jersey, continue to be very concerned at the ever climbing rates of murders,NFL Jerseys Cheap, accidents and violence in interior locations.”The association,Wholesale Authentic Jerseys, in calling for the authorities to improve the security situation in the mining district, said that many times, because of no police presence in these areas,http://www.airmaxfantasy.us.com/574-New-Balance/, murders go unsolved and grieving families continue to be denied justice.“It is sad to note that while gold prices continue to rise and the industry contributes heavily to the economy, the relevant authorities do not find it important to put mechanisms in place to protect the men and women who risk their lives to earn a better living. As an organization, the GWMO will continue to champion the cause of all those who work in the interior and we will not rest until the Government makes tangible moves to provide better security for interior workers.”With gold prices on a high, the hinterland has been experiencing an unprecedented rush of investments and illegal mining. It has also brought along the challenges of monitoring, especially crime and safe travel. |
