| On March 1, Organization for the Victory of the People (OVP) launched its 2015 election campaign with the slogan ‘No More Decisions About Us, Without Us’.Gerald PerreiraOVP’s leader, Gerald Perreira, is well known, nationally and internationally, as a committed Pan-Africanist and political activist,Carl Lawson Youth Jersey, educator, writer and commentator. He was a central executive member of the Young Socialist Movement, the youth arm of the PNC, and political assistant to the Minister of Education, Jeffrey Thomas, under Forbes Burnham.He lived and worked in Libya for many years, lecturing at the Green World Institute, and was a founder and executive member of the World Mathaba based in Tripoli, Libya.The Mathaba brought together revolutionary movements from all over Africa, South America,Candido Ramirez Mexico Jersey, the Caribbean and throughout the world.Mr Perreira stressed that OVP did not come into being for the sake of elections. The organization has been around for many years, most recently as the Guyanese resistance movement,John Stallworth Steelers Jersey, Joint Initiative for Human Advancement and Dignity (JIHAD) and Black Consciousness Movement Guyana (BCMG).Perreira stated that regardless of the election results, OVP is here to stay and would continue its work, together with all Guyanese who are dedicated to the realization of a truly independent and sovereign Guyana, which can bring justice and prosperity to all its citizens.According to Mr Perreira, “It is difficult for smaller parties and organizations to even participate in elections, since it requires a great deal of money and resources and everything is stacked in favour of the major players. This is not about democracy – it is about the rule of money and influence.”Perreira,Juan Fernando Quintero Colombia Jersey, who holds a first degree in political science, a master’s in transpersonal psychology and a doctorate in theology, said that ‘the soul of the nation is mortally wounded, and that Guyana’s political and economic crisis has, at its root, a spiritual and moral crisis.’Mr Perreira is part of a Caribbean wide think tank, set up by Minister Louis Farrakhan, with the aim of bettering the lives of the people of the Caribbean and South America. He was recently in the press for having been refused entry to Jamaica, preventing him from joining Minister Farrakhan and other members of the Think Tank for the 19th commemoration of the Million Man March.He is currently pursuing legal action against the government of Jamaica since, according to Mr Perreira’s lawyer, Mr David Commissiong, the Jamaican government had no legal grounds for preventing him, as a Caricom citizen with no criminal record, from entering Jamaica.In their flyers, OVP states that many of its members were part of Burnham’s PNC, and were forced to part ways with Mr Hoyte’s PNCR when they abandoned Burnham’s vision. The flyer also claims that Burnham was destabilized and undermined every step of the way ‘by sinister forces – both internal and external’.The flyer goes on boldly to claim that: ‘Forbes Burnham is the father of the nation. He was the only president with the courage to articulate a national vision that would have led Guyana down the path to true independence and prosperity – and everyone knows it, even those that are too cowardly to admit it.”OVP will not be contesting the presidential election – they are contesting the Regional elections and only in Region Four. Their flyer,Haason Reddick Womens Jersey, entitled ‘Important Message to All Citizens of Region Four’ explains that ‘if you live in Region Four,Douglas Barcelona Jersey, whichever party you give your presidential vote to, give your regional vote to OVP.’ Their symbol is the striking Black Panther. |
